This fashion editorial with Vogue-published Filipino fashion designer John Herrera was an absolute dream to capture. Since moving to the UK, I’ve been hoping to collaborate with and highlight fellow Filipino creatives. And it only took six long years of waiting. But luckily, the time has come.
WORKING WITH JOHN HERRERA
I couldn’t be more excited when we were planning this fashion editorial. John Hererra is a multi-award-winning fashion designer whose work has graced the covers of international magazines and notable publications including British Vogue and GQ. He’s also launched several fashion collections in both London and Tokyo fashion weeks and won awards for his design genius. I knew he’d create a collection that would embody our Filipino heritage with a modern Western approach. The best of both worlds.
THE THALIA DRESS BY JOHN HERRERA
John launched the Thalia dress as part of his 2022 bridalwear collection. Along with five other designs, the Thalia dress is made with pure silk and cotton fibers and is in line with John’s commitment to promoting quality and sustainability. With its constructed off-white silk organza and hand-smocked ruffled off-shoulder detail, it truly is a work of art. The empire-cut waist reminds me of the Regency era fashion, perfect for brides who want to make a bold fashion statement.
JOHN HERRERA’S UK CREATIVE TEAM:
When we were building our small creative team, I got in touch with UK-based Filipina hair and make-up artist Iris Maglanoc. Iris has over nine years of experience working in the beauty and fashion industry. Her background in fashion, skills, and expertise in highlighting natural beauty were perfect for what John and I were hoping to achieve. She created a simple but elegant look to complement the John Herrera 2022 bridalwear collection.
I have to admit that having a full Filipino creative team made me miss home. But I couldn’t be prouder to work with John and Iris to create something that shows the best of Filipino talent. And this is just the beginning. There’s a lot more to come.
