Is there anything more exciting than planning one of the most important days in your life? But where do you start? Do you choose a special date as a priority or do you choose your dream wedding venue first? Should you book wedding suppliers early or is it better to leave that until a bit later? When you realise how many decisions you need to make, wedding planning can get stressful. But it doesn’t need to be, especially if you follow some wedding planning well-being practices. In fact, it could be an enjoyable process – if only you know how to navigate through it.
Agreeing a wedding date, choosing a theme, scouting venues, selecting wedding suppliers – your list could go on and on. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the things you need to accomplish before your big day. Before you start ticking the boxes on your wedding planning list, why not go through a wedding planning well-being list. Remember what’s most important about your wedding – YOU.
Prioritise health and nutrition
Your wedding isn’t going to happen without you. Therefore, you need to make sure that you’re healthy and well enough to be able to make it to your big day. It’s tempting to aim for a slimmer body or to try to achieve those killer abs. However, your main goals should be to reach your optimum health and feel good about yourself.
Eat well and stay hydrated. The key is to have a well-balanced diet and develop healthy eating habits. Stay away from fad diets and quick weight-loss programmes that promise drastic changes to your body. Those could potentially be dangerous for you and probably won’t even work in the long-term. Instead, increase your consumption of vitamin-rich foods like fruits and vegetables. Limit your intake of foods that are high in fat or sugar.
Exercise regularly. Try different options and figure out what works for you. It doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym. In fact, it could be as simple as choosing to walk to work everyday instead of getting the bus. It could be anything that gets you moving and burning those extra calories. You could also try joining a class. There’s yoga, pilates, cross fit and barre, to name a few. Exercise not only pumps your blood, it also releases endorphins which contribute to a feeling of well-being.
Get enough sleep. Sleeping is important both for your physical and mental health. Not only will enough sleep guarantee you that beautiful wedding glow. It will also help your body recover and reduce your stress levels. If you want to keep your immune system strong for your wedding, getting enough sleep should be on your wedding planning well-being list.
Take time to relax and have a break
Slow down and breathe. Wedding planning is not a race, nor is it a competition. It’s a thoughtful process, a journey towards your big day. While you are busy going through your wedding planning list, make sure you set aside time for relaxation. There are many ways to practice this. Some people meditate, some take long baths, some read books and some even go shopping! Whatever works for you is totally fine. The important thing is to ensure you take time to release the physical tension and stress from your body.
Give yourself a break. Whenever you start feeling overwhelmed, spend time away from anything related to weddings. Do something completely unrelated or go somewhere new. Avoid wedding talk whenever you have an off-day from wedding planning. Once you feel better, you can get back to it with a refreshed and clear mind.
Be kind to yourself
Treat yourself once in a while. Have a bite of that scrumptious chocolate bar. Go on a date night with your partner. Venture into the countryside and go on a mini-break. Wedding planning doesn’t have to be boring. You don’t need to wait until the honeymoon to reward yourself with something you both might enjoy. Wouldn’t it be nice to reward yourself every time you tick the boxes in your wedding planning list? I promise you, it’s a great way to motivate you and make you feel excited to work on your next wedding planning activities.
Delegate. Recognise when it’s time to ask for help. Whether you choose to engage a wedding planner or ask help from your family and close friends, it’s important to acknowledge that you can’t do everything on your own. Figure out which tasks you’d like to do yourself and delegate those that can be more efficiently done by someone else. Not only will this take some of the burden off your shoulder. It will also allow other people to contribute and feel more involved in your wedding day.
